TW32EQ02 – Vickers Machine gun

Tommy’s War is the leading brand of 1/32 scale World War One model figures, designed for modellers to build, paint and display.

The Vickers machine gun was a British heavy machine gun that became one of the most iconic and reliable firearms of the 20th century. Like the German MG08, the Vickers was based on the original Maxim gun but was modified to improve its durability, reliability, and ease of manufacture. It served extensively from its introduction in the early 20th century through both World Wars and beyond.

Key Features:

Design and Mechanism:

• Operated on the short recoil principle, with a toggle-lock mechanism.
• Water-cooled using a cylindrical water jacket surrounding the barrel, allowing for sustained firing.
• Extremely reliable under battlefield conditions, earning a reputation for being almost indestructible when properly maintained.

Caliber:

• Chambered for the .303 British cartridge, the standard British military round.

Rate of Fire:

• Approximately 450–600 rounds per minute.
• The slower rate of fire improved ammunition efficiency and reduced wear on components during sustained fire.

Weight:

• Gun itself: About 15 kg (33 lbs).
• With the water-filled cooling jacket, tripod, and accessories: 50–60 kg.
• Required a crew of 3–6 soldiers to operate, including carrying ammunition and water supplies.

Feeding System:

• Fired from a 250-round fabric belt.
• The belt was reusable and less prone to jamming compared to some metal-link designs.

Cooling:

• The water jacket held approximately 4 liters of water.
• Steam generated during firing could be condensed and recycled using a hose leading to a steam can.

However, the figures measure approximately 56-58mm foot to eye, so they may not be compatible with other figure or vehicle ranges. • The machine gun is cast in polyurethane resin and is supplied unpainted and unassembled. The kit requires cleaning and assembly and is not suitable for children under the age of 12. Please always take care when working with resin. Work in a well ventilated room or wear a face mask as protection from resin dust.
• Any scenic base shown on the box art is NOT included with the figure.
