TW32AL08 – Private, 162nd French Infantry Regiment, The Marne 1914

Tommy’s War is the leading brand of 1/32 scale World War One model figures, designed for modellers to build, paint and display.

This figure depicts a Private infantryman from a French Infantry Regiment at the beginning of World War One. At this point of the war the French Army retained the distinctive blue coats and red trousers which hadn’t changed much from the Franco Prussian War. The figures are based on an illustration (see here);

The illustration is based on Alain de Fayolle (October 13 1891- August 22 1914), one of the officers making the pact with a dozen others in the summer of 1914. “Let us swear,” said Lieutenant Jean Allard-Meeus upon graduating from the St. Cyr academy. “That the first time we go into battle we shall wear Our plumes and white gloves.” A dozen cadets swore to do so and gave rise to the legend of French officers wearing white gloves. On August 22 1914 wearing his plume and white gloves Lieutenant Allard-Meus fell while fighting with the 162nd Regiment. On the same day and under heavy fire, his fellow Cadet Alain de Fayolle of the 50th Regiment calmly reached into his knapsack. Donning his plume and gloves, he rose to his feet, shouting “Forward, lads! For France!” and was immediately cut down.

The figure is 1/32 scale and cast in resin and is sculpted by Nino Pizzichemi, box art is by Alex Long.

• The figures in the Tommy’s War range are 1/32 scale and sometimes described as 54mm in height. However, the figures measure approximately 56-58mm foot to eye, so they may not be compatible with other figure or vehicle ranges. • The figure is cast in polyurethane resin and is supplied unpainted and unassembled. The kit requires cleaning and assembly and is not suitable for children under the age of 12.
