Description

Tanks formed a vital role in the Allied victory in World War One and have continued to become one of the defining pieces of military technology since. The idea of an armoured vehicle went back as far as 1914, and it was Winston Churchill who pursued the idea of a ‘land battleship’

By 1915 an experimental vehicle had been constructed under the auspices of the Heavy Section Machine Gun Corps. Tanks first saw action in 1916 at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette during the Somme offensive. In 1917 the Tank Corps was formed from Heavy Branch MGC (as they had become).

This figure is designed to work in conjunction with figure TW32049 and shows tank crew in typical clothing and kit for 1918 as they would have appeared at the Battle of Amiens where armoured regiments helped punch a hole in the German lines. This figure wears his army tunic and trousers and Brodie helmet. He would have had a red/blue halved disc painted onto his helmet and also worn on his shoulder. Heavy Branch MGS used colours to distinguish units and this practice continued into the Tank Corps. He wears his Tank Corps badge, corporal titles and overseas chevrons. The figure is depicted wearing his mailed face mask which was worn by crew to protect them from splinters and other debris, common inside tanks of the period.

The figure is 1/32 scale and cast in light grey resin and is sculpted by Nino Pizzichemi. Box art is by Alex Varela.

Please note the following:

  • The figures in the Tommy’s War range are 1/32 scale and sometimes described as 54mm in height. However, the figures measure approximately 56-58mm foot to eye, so they may not be compatible with other figure or vehicle ranges. If you have any questions regarding scale then please don’t hesitate to email darren@tommyswar.com.
  • Figures from the AL and CP ranges do not come with a rifle sling.
  • The figure is cast in polyurethane resin and is supplied unpainted and unassembled. The kit requires cleaning and assembly and is not suitable for children under the age of 12. Please always take care when working with resin. Work in a well ventilated room or wear a face mask as protection from resin dust.
  • Any scenic base shown on the box art is NOT included with the figure.
