New from Tommy’s War – collect shillings!*

I’m really excited to announce the launch of a new scheme for Tommy’s War customers that allows you to collect points (shillings) which can then be used to pay for, or part-pay, future orders!*
Shillings is a historical term for a payment given to new recruits in the British armed forces. While the practice ended in the nineteenth century the term remains in British folklore that to “take the King’s shilling” (or Queen) means to join the armed forces.
The term was used in recruiting in World War One, and featured in a 1914 song called “I’ll make a man out of you” which included the following verse;
On Sunday I walk out with a Soldier
Monday I’m taken by a Tar
Tuesday I’m out with a baby Boy Scout
On Wednesday a Hussar
On Thursday I gang out wi’ a Scottie
On Friday the Captain of the crew
But on Saturday I’m willing if you’ll only take the shilling
To make a man of any one of you.
But don’t worry, I’m not trying to “make a man” out of anyone!
From this very moment when you spend on www.tommyswar.com you’ll be able to earn shillings. The system is simple, every time you spend you’ll automatically be allocated 1 Shilling for every £1.00 you spend.
Example;
You spend £40 and receive 40 shillings – equivalent to £4.00.
This is allocated to your account and then next time you sign-in and place an order you’ll see a note asking if you wish this £4.00 to be deducted from your new order. You can choose to use your shillings, or save them over time. It’s up to you.
In 2021 we mark the ten year anniversary of Tommy’s War and I’m delighted to confirm that there will be a special release to mark the event which will be two 1/32 figures sculpted by Nino Pizzichemi; King George V and a Staff Officer. This new release and the new loyalty scheme will mean you can take the Kings Shilling!
I’ve produced a Question and Answer page here, which gives you full details of how the system will work
